Sarah Cheung

Sarah Cheung, LCPC, is the founder of SonderGrace Counseling PLLC, a telehealth-only practice serving clients across Illinois.
 

The name SonderGrace carries the heart of her work: sonder — the realization that every person is the protagonist of their own vivid, complex story; grace — unconditional acceptance and a nonjudgmental space to be vulnerable, heal, and grow. It's a philosophy shaped by her belief that clients shouldn't have to educate their therapist about their cultural context — particularly the family expectations, stigma around help-seeking, and intergenerational dynamics familiar to many Asian American clients.

Sarah works primarily with clients navigating life transitions, with a special heart for college and graduate students, young adults, and new and expecting moms. Before founding her practice, she spent six years as a counselor at a diverse urban school and taught graduate counseling students.

She welcomes collaboration and referrals from fellow clinicians — especially for Asian American clients seeking a therapist who understands their world from the inside.
